Conceived during the final weeks of 2024, the American Songs EP is a politically-charged collection of songs written over nearly a decade of social and political upheaval. The attitude and lyrical spirit of the songs leave little doubt regarding Buckley & Davis’s political leanings while displaying a healthy mixture of sincerity and sardonic wit. Songs that are dripping with satire (“The Ole Party Formerly Known as Grand” and “Goodnight, Joe”), moments of soft balladry (“Ringmaster’s Waltz”) and outright protest songs (“Pretend Parade,” “(I’ve Got) The B.S. Blues” and “The Teflon Donald”) are brought together to make a concise and potent statement.
